President's Report
July 17, 2011
Dear Members,
You will be receiving in the US mail a copy of the final draft
that has been approved and a Ballot to vote.
We finally have the long awaited "Breed Standard Revision" ready
for your vote. It has been approved for "ballot" by the American
Kennel club. Also, at this time I want to let you know that if
the standard passes, there is a five year moratorium before any
other revisions may be made. We are sending the Revisions to the
entire membership by email and/or regular mail to those who do
not have email addresses, for your consideration.
We have worked constantly on this much needed project for the
past three years. When I say we, I am referring to the
Committee, the board, the members who submitted input and
suggestions, and the four years at the the Nationals where many,
many hours were given to do the best that could be arrived at
and getting as close to a consensus as any project could. We are
aware, there were suggestions by various people that were
included and some that were not included, but in a democracy, I
guess there will never be a 100% agreeable blueprint. Basically,
with the different beliefs, having different eyes for the breed,
etc., we can never reach a 100% agreement on what the standard
should be. It is a good standard, it has latitude for
differences, and hopefully now the language is more clear for
anyone and everyone that reads the standard to be able to know
what things are important to identify a well put together Toy
Fox Terrier.
For those who will still not like the revisions, please come
forward and submit your name for a future committee position on
the standard committee. Hopefully it will pass and then if you
still dislike items, again submit your name to serve on the next
committee. It has taken over four years of work and if it
passes, you can work on the committee which can be ready for
submitting your version within the next five years.
Thanks to all those who expressed suggestions and ideas and
especially to Cindy Clark for her continued effort to see that
all items were considered prior to submitting a final draft.
Please, don't let one or two things you disapprove of keep this
from passing. There is not a PERFECT DOG out there, but we must
keep trying to provide the blueprint that will hopefully,
eventually produce the PERFECT TOY FOX TERRIER.
